Course Summary:

This event is aimed at practitioners who have an interest in courtroom processes or who actively participate in legal settings through the provision of evidence.  Such settings include formal and quasi-court (e.g. tribunals, oral hearings, parole boards).  It is aimed at those likely to provide evidence as expert or professional witnesses.

The training will cover:

- The background and history to the use of experts in Courts

- The challenges faced by professional/expert witnesses in the content of their discipline evidence: common professional errors and how the best standards need to be maintained

- Courtroom etiquette and formalities

- How a witness can proactively familiarise themselves with the process

Trainers: Professor Jane L. Ireland, Chartered Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist. Professor Ireland regularly provides expert and professional testimony in Court. Areas have covered both criminal and civil litigation, and Parole and Immigration. Professor Ireland is also a principal clinician in secure psychiatric service. Professor Ireland has been providing training on witness familiarisation for over 15 years, including the provision of postgraduate training on this topic.

Course materials: All course materials will be provided to delegates, along with a CPD certificate at the close of training.

Venue: Live Online Zoom Event

Who can attend: The training is open to all professionals who are likely to enter a formal or quasi court for the purpose of delivering evidence. It will address both oral and written evidence and for this reason is open to a wide range of practitioners, including those who may provide only written evidence to assist a legal setting.
