Understanding and Assessing Psychopathy: Training incorporating the Psychopathy Checklist Revised (PCL-R: 2nd edition): Online Event November 2020Book Now
Date: 12th and 13th November 2020: 9.30am - 4.30pm UK time
This training focuses on the understanding of psychopathy, along with its assessment and scoring, using the Hare Psychopathy Checklist (PCL-R, 2nd Edition). Delegates will be trained in the use of and administration of the PCL-R. The event will also provide delegates with a new research measure for their free use for research purposes (PAPA - Psychopathic processing and Personality Assessment) and outline developments for a research assessment (ACL - Affect, Cognitive and Lifestyle).
Training will comprise case material and the scoring of clinical videos. The training aims to provide a broad outline of the assessment, management and understanding of psychopathy focusing on the following:
- Conceptualisations and theories of psychopathy;
- Distinguishing psychopathy from personality disorder;
- Assessment of psychopathy;
- Background to the development of the PCL-R;
- Structure and content of the PCL-R;
- Observing and scoring clinical interviews for the PCL-R;
- Effective use of the PCL-R: Ethical considerations.
The cost includes provision of handouts, reading material and CPD certificate. There are limited places on this course. Block booking discounts are available for services booking three or more places. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
To attend the event you must have access to a PCL-R manual (2nd Edition), so that you can complete ratings. You can purchase this from https://www.annarbor.co.uk/. TIOFP is not a distributor for the manual and so we cannot provide this for you. You may want to consider purchasing the Complete Kit for your future use but for the training event you just require access to the manual.
The training commences at 9:30am and ends by 4:30pm on each day.
Trainers: Professor Jane L Ireland and Dr Michael Lewis
Course materials: A certificate of attendance will be provided to all those who successfully complete the course.
Venue: Live Online Zoom Event
Who can attend: The PCL-R is carefully controlled due to its psychodiagnostic nature. The course is available for Psychiatrists and Registered Psychologists (who hold a current practicing certificate with the HCPC). Registered Psychologists who wish to complete this training must be Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychologists. Delegates must provide their HCPC/RCP membership number on booking. Arrangements for other professional groups, such as those in training, can be made. Any clinical use of the PCL-R by these groups should be completed in accordance to the manual guidelines and any organisational policies which may be in place. It must also be under supervision of a PCL-R trained and a Registered Professional who meets the PCL-R manual criteria and who takes full responsibility for its interpretation.
