Date
23rd - 24th September 2026, 9.30am - 4.30pm (UK Time)Course Summary
THIS EVENT IS SPECIFICALLY OPEN TO EMDR-TRAINED FORENSIC PRACTITIONERS.
This event will outline attachment-informed EMDR (ai-EMDR). It will provide an outline of applying an attachment-informed approach to EMDR in forensic populations. Specifically this will focus on the introduction of the ai-EMDR approach, the framework, its goals and the importance of an attachment-informed formulation. This will look at the importance of bridging to locate the early formative experience/s. Demonstration of the framework will be provided, with lots of opportunity to practice in order to facilitate confidence. By the end of the event you will be able to apply ai-informed EMDR.
The ai-EMDR framework is developed by Mark Brayne (https://emdrfocus.com/about/), which integrates the principles of Attachment Theory into the standard Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) protocol. By doing so, it aims to enhance trauma therapy by acknowledging how early relational experiences shape emotional and psychological patterns, with the formative experience being key. Ai-EMDR adds to the 8-phase EMDR standard protocol, allowing deeper engagement with complex, developmental trauma. It is still (in essence) the 8 phase protocol, but it prioritises safety, attunement [awareness], and relational repair, all addressing the relational hurt in the client. This approach fits neatly in the forensic population, and where attachment difficulties can be a foundation of their vulnerability to offending.
The event will empower clinicians to feel confident with using an attachment informed approach to EMDR (ai-EMDR).
Learning objectives:
1). To describe how attachment is relevant to EMDR therapy;
2). To apply at least two frameworks/theories to aid our understanding of attachment and trauma, including methods of formulating to aid understanding;
3). To understand the core elements of the ai-EMDR framework, the evolution of this and how to apply this.
4). To practice resourcing, bridging, interweaves and their integration to the ai-EMDR framework.
5). To recognise applications to forensic cases, including direct application to a provided case study and delegate provided examples.
The cost includes provision of handouts and attendance certificate. There are limited places on this event. Please email tiofp@tiofp.com for more information.
The training commences at 9:30am and ends by 4.30pm each day.
Please also note that only those trained in EMDR in accordance with the expectations of their jurisdiction are eligible to practice EMDR. This event is not designed to train you to become an EMDR therapist. It is not EMDR Basic training.
The program site is ADA compliant. Please contact tiofp@tiofp.com if special accomodations are required.
