Course Summary

This training focuses on developing an understanding of protective assessments for violence risk, using the SAPROF 2nd edition (de Vries Robbe et al., 2015), for adults. The training reflects an increasing need to capture protective factors alongside risk factors. The training will capture an introduction to risk and protective factors for violence, development of the SAPROF and an outline of SAPROF items. Attendees will utilise case material to score using this protective assessment. The value in using this approach as a motivational tool for clients will be outlined. The other versions in development will also be noted.

The cost includes provision of handouts, reading material and CPD certificate. The training does not provide SAPROF manuals. These should be purchased for the event from the distributor. Trainers

Professor Jane L Ireland will deliver this event. Professor Ireland is a Chartered Psychologist, Forensic Psychologist. Professor Ireland specialises in the understanding, assessment and treatment of aggression, having widely published on this topic. She leads assessed postgraduate training in this area and researches in the application of this tool within secure services. She is an author-approved trainer for the SAPROF and has led research capturing the implementation of the SAPROF and developments in this area with forensic groups, including the new Long Term Secure version.

Course Materials

All attendees will be provided with a CPD certificate indicating attendance. The training does not include the SAPROF manual. This is required for the event and can be purchased in advance from the distributor listed above.

Who Can Attend

The SAPROF is designed to be used by a range of disciplines. It is a companion guide to structured risk assessments guides, such as the HCR-20 (risk assessment). There are no restrictions therefore on the professionals that can attend although it is helpful to have some knowledge of what risk assessment includes. The most common attendees are psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, psychiatric and community nurses, police officers, prison officers, social workers and probation officers. Support is also provided following the event in relation to general queries over ratings.
