Course Summary

This event will consider the challenges that can emerge when working through the EMDR protocol with clients who have engaged in sexual offending. This will consider the use of EMDR as an adjunct to offence-focused work, with consideration of the AIP Model. It will explore the key academic literature looking at sexual offending and the offence drivers (Ricci and Clayton, 2016) that may respond well to EMDR intervention, and as part of the intervention pathway to the client addressing their offending through more detailed offence-focused work. It will further consider the challenges that can present with this population, such as distortions and minimisations, and how these may be considered and managed by the therapist as part of the EMDR therapy. Overall, this event is aimed to empower clinicians to feel confident with the EMDR protocol and AIP when engaging with a potentially challenging client population. The use of group discussion will be used to illustrate and develop learning. Focus will be on the standard EMDR protocol.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT WILL BE RECORDED FOR THOSE NOT ABLE TO ATTEND LIVE, BUT WHO WISH TO ATTEND TO THE CONTENT. The recording will be made available to delegates for one month after the event. All delegates will attend this event on the understanding that a recording of this nature will be made. Yet, please note that if you only listen to the recording EMDRIA credits awarded for this event are NOT provided – EMDRIA points are given ONLY to those delegates who attend for the LIVE event.

4 EMDRIA credits have been awarded for this event. Eligibility for EMDRIA Credits is restricted to those who have completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training. Attendees who are only partially trained in EMDR are not eligible to receive EMDRIA Credits.

Please also note that only those trained in EMDR in accordance with the expectations of their jurisdiction are eligible to practice EMDR. This event is not designed to train you to become an EMDR therapist.

Trainers

The facilitator of this event is Dr. Carol A. Ireland. Dr. Ireland is a Chartered Psychologist and Consultant Forensic Psychologist. She has worked in clinical practice for over 26 years. Dr. Ireland is an EMDR UK and EMDRIA Accredited Clinical Supervisor/Consultant and works within a community therapeutic service. She has regularly worked with clients who have committed sexual offences for over 26 years. Dr. Ireland was previously a National Trainer for Sex Offender Therapies for HM Prison Service, and continues to train therapists in the Life Minus Violence – Harmful Sexual Behaviour offence intervention (www.tiofp.com) in her clinical practice, and as one of the lead trainers. She has engaged in both long-term group and individual offence interventions with this population, and has regularly published in this area. She further has considerable experience of the application of EMDR to this client group.

Course Materials

All live attendees will be provided with an attendance certificate. Those who listen to the recording only will be provided with a certificate noting they have attended to a recording of the event, and which does not note the 4 EMDRIA credits.

Who Can Attend

This is an EMDR protocol event. The target audience are clinicians who are/may be using EMDR with clients. The target audience is therefore those who have completed at least Part 1 of the EMDR training. If you do not fulfil this please contact the facilitator via tiofp@tiofp.com who can advise on the value of this event for you and ensure your expectations are met.
