Course Summary
Delegates will be trained in the SARA v3 (Kropp & Hart, 2015), a Structured Professional Judgement guide for assessing and managing risk for intimate partner violence. The event will cover use and administration of the SARA v3, using case studies to illustrate. At the end of the training delegates will be able to apply the SARA v3 clinically, develop formulations and complete risk scenarios.
Importantly, and to advance delegate knowledge even further, the event will move beyond typology to capture the importance of the dyadic relationship between those involved and the ever-involving tactics that are utilised (e.g., gaslighting, technology facilitated abuse, doxing, reproductive coercion etc.) Often the relationship between those involved is neglected, with a focus instead on the ‘perpetrator’ only and adopting a typology-based approach. However, this does not fit with research or clinical practice where we are also trying to understand the interplay between perpetrators, victims, bidirectional abuse, and how to maximise victim safety.
The training will capture the importance of developmental psychopathology and dyadic regulation, focusing on the dynamic interaction between internal vulnerability and interpersonal triggers. This will cover traumatic origins, insecure attachment, shame-rage cycles and trauma bonding. The importance of accounting for interlocking pathologies is key, where one member of the dyad may use the other for external regulation. The application of the demand-withdrawal feedback loop will be considered to allow for a greater understanding of how the SARA can be applied to understand interlocking pathologies in greater detail. Case studies will be utilised to demonstrate learning points and to progress understanding.

Delegates are expected to have a SARA v3 manual in order to attend the training (the SARA v3 items will be needed for scoring the clinical cases). If they do not already possess this, one can be ordered from https://www.annarbor.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=419_676.
Delegates will, of course, require a manual to use the SARA clinically after the event.
Any delegate having difficulty securing the manual are encouraged to contact the trainers direct via tiofp.ltd@gmail.com
