Date
27th January 2025, 9.30am - 4.30pm (UK/GMT Time)Course Summary
This event will provide an outline of factors relevant to understanding trauma in forensic populations, with attention to the role of complex trauma responding, adverse childhood experiences and offending. From this, it is aimed that delegates will be able to identify how to account for such factors in EMDR therapy in relation to assessment, preparation, processing memories and installing cognitions, as particular areas of relevance. This will include focused attention on the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and how this applies to forensic populations, using case studies to illustrate. Focus will be on the standard EMDR protocol with reference to other protocols for consideration, as relevant. It will include the EMDR – Case Formulation and Readiness Map for Forensic Clients (EMDR – CRFM).
The event will address challenges that can emerge when working with this client group, which can include a shift away from the protocol as a result of boundary violations or not being sufficiently aware of the importance of history taking, preparation and factors that can impact on successful engagement for this population. It will also aim to empower clinicians to feel confident with the EMDR protocol and AIP application.
Learning objectives:
1.) To describe how trauma presents in forensic populations;
2.) To apply at least two theories to aid understanding of client trauma presentation and to plan for this as part of the assessment stage;
3.) To prepare for stabilisation and processing for EMDR therapy in forensic populations, which includes identifying at least four methods/approaches to stabilisation and safe and effective processing.
4.) To recognise the importance of formulation and apply the EMDR Case Formulation and Readiness Map for Forensic Clients (EMDR-CFRM) to at least one case study.
The cost includes provision of handouts, reading material and attendance certificate. There are limited places on this event. Please email tiofp@tiofp.com for more information.
The training commences at 9:30am and ends by 4:30pm.
This event has six accreditation credits from the EMDR Association UK. These points apply only to EMDR therapists/those who have completed Part 1 of recognised EMDR UK training.
Six EMDR International Association credits have also been achieved – eligibility for EMDRIA Credits is restricted to those who have completed an EMDRIA-Approved Basic EMDR Training. Attendees who are only partially trained in EMDR are not eligible to receive EMDRIA Credits.
Please also note that only those trained in EMDR in accordance with the expectations of their jurisdiction are eligible to practice EMDR. This event is not designed to train you to become an EMDR therapist. It is not EMDR Basic training.
