Date

10th March 2025, 9.30am - 4.30pm (UK Time)

Course Summary

This event will outline diagnostic requirements for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and provide clarity on the distinctions across specific trauma diagnoses, the importance of decomposing the diagnosis for treatment and formulation, and competing further diagnoses that need to be accounted for. The event will capture:

  • General PTSD and distinguishing this from Adjustment Disorder.
  • Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) and how this can be confused with developmental or cumulative trauma as sole precursors. Thus, ICD-11 expectations will be outlined and the importance of not disregarding single-incidents of trauma when considering the possibility of a diagnosable C-PTSD.
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with Delayed Expression.
  • Post Traumatic Stress Disorder with Dissociative Symptoms.
  • Common competing diagnoses; how to distinguish and when to defer a diagnosis. This will capture, in particular, Borderline presentations and the importance of accounting for a transdiagnostic approach.

Case studies will be used illustrate and develop learning so that attendees can begin to identify differences and leave with a raised understanding of PTSD and the varying forms. The importance of this for reaching decisions on diagnosis, treatment and formulation will represent a recurrent theme. Attendees will also be directed towards diagnostic instruments that can be considered, with an illustration of these provided.
